Baby Blue Gallery
Caleb Beck announced Baby Blue Gallery’s move to a new location along with details of its first exhibition last December. A year ago, Beck, a painter who moved from Boston to immerse himself in the DIY art community thriving in Chicago, was showing work out of his apartment in Pilsen, with visitors entering through his kitchen and walking around his living room and bedrooms. Depending on the show, Beck would paint the walls, add vinyl text or change the lighting to suit the works on display. He was so committed to his project of creating an accessible apartment-gallery space that he didn’t bother to spend money furnishing it. Instead, every time there was a show, he would throw his mattress into the closet and prep the space to receive visitors. Curated, promoted and financially supported by Beck, Baby Blue is literally a one-man show. (Manisha AR)
