Harmonica Night, Amy’s Wine House
Chicago has long been a place where giants like Little Walter, James Cotton and Junior Wells perfected the amplified blues harmonica sound. As an homage to the great blues, jazz and even classical harmonica players, Amy’s Wine House has a harmonica hoedown on the third Wednesday of the month. A tradition now in its fifth year, the Hohner, Seydel and Lee Oscar families gather their children, the diatonics and their larger, more rare offspring, the chromatics, for a monthly Mississippi saxophone reunion. The mood is generous, as any aspiring harmonica player will learn how to suck and blow and grasp the thrill of the trill along with drinking fine wine at prices even a bluesman can afford.
