Humboldt Park Lagoon
When Jens Jensen came to Chicago in the mid-nineteenth century, he got a gig sweeping the streets for the Park District. Later, he was elevated to an office in the Humboldt Park Stables, where he went on to become one of this country’s foremost landscape architects. He left his botanical legacy throughout the city. In summer, Humboldt Park’s lagoon area, which Jensen designed, blooms with flowers planted in patterns recorded on color postcards from the period of Jensen’s reign. It is spectacular.
