Promontory Point
Built over a landfill in the 1930s, this man-made peninsula serves as a beautiful location to watch the sunset on Lake Michigan. Located in Hyde Park, the Point has a public park to play sports, patches of grass to sunbathe on and rocks to sit on and admire the Chicago skyline. If the weather is right, this section of the lake is filled with swimmers, kayakers and windsurfers. The park has a field house managed by the Chicago Park District, available for weddings and meetings. The space closer to the lake gets particularly crowded on the Fourth of July as people set up grills and blankets to watch the fireworks. (Manisha AR)
