Refinery 29, 29 Rooms
Bounce as hard as you can on a trampoline in a room filled with transparent plastic bubbles. Let go of what holds you back by writing it on a piece of paper and shredding it in a room filled with the baggage of others—also in the form of shredded paper. Stand before a wall of fans to create a Windy City feel. Immerse yourself in VR or put on a set of—hand-painted no less—boxing gloves and go at it. Part art exhibition, part cultural experience, part funhouse, Refinery 29’s 29 Rooms came to Chicago for the first time this summer—the theme: Turn it into Art.” The pop-up was hosted in an industrial warehouse in the West Loop, just big enough to fit all twenty-nine themes in three days. With topics ranging from culture and society to politics, gender and identity, each installation is created by visual artists, musicians and celebrities to make sure there’s something for everyone. And all that, amidst a generous amount of bright colors, neon, flowers and rainbows, that provide Instagram-worthy moments. (Vasia Rigou)
