Jeppson’s Malört
Pilsen’s CH Distillery is bringing the unforgettably brackish wormwood-infused liquor, Jeppson’s Malört, back to Chicago after nearly fifty years of Florida-based distillation. Tremaine Atkinson, founder of CH, told the Tribune his first reaction twenty years ago to the piercing bitterness was “Why did you do that to me?” He also told the Tribune, “I love everything about it. I hate everything about it. It’s such a great iconic Chicago thing. It fits at the psychic level, the business level and the cultural level.” Jeppsons’ twitter feed offered reassurance upon its October sale: “No, we will not be touching the recipe. It will be made just as Carl Jeppson would have made it some ninety years ago.” (Ray Pride)
