The Demise of the Alley
One final Halloween has come and gone for the current Lakeview location of The Alley, the punk shop established in 1986 that had its heyday when there was still a Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at Belmont and Clark for punks and goths and skaters and connoisseurs of cheap beer to hang out at after long nights at Neo or Berlin and longer mornings at Medusa. Counterculture consumerism is everywhere now, no longer requiring a destination location. Merchandise will still be sold online after the 3221 North Clark location shutters. (Ray Pride)
