When Mario’s Italian Lemonade stand opens every May, you know winter is over and spring is here. Their lemonade—a kin to Italian ice—is served in a range of fresh fruit flavors; any one of which is the perfect accompaniment or denouement to an Italian beef dinner from across the street at Al’s Beef. Mario’s is one of the last walk-up places in Chicago, a joint serving street eats with no indoor seating. It’s a blast from Chicago’s past and a welcome icy chill on Chicago’s hottest afternoons.
