Jim’s Original
The hot dog is a signature Chicago food, and you can get that at Jim’s Original, but you can also get two other Chicago original foods: the Maxwell Street Polish and the Pork Chop Sandwich. The Maxwell Street Polish originated at Jim’s when it was located at the Maxwell Street Market, starting in the 1930s, and it’s a hefty garlicky sausage, set in a bun, loaded with griddled onions, mustard and optional sport peppers. The Pork Chop Sandwich is a whole bone-in chop, with the same toppings as the Polish, to be eaten by gripping the bone through the bun and gingerly eating around it to avoid potential dental damage.
